Overview

Location:  Position is remote. Must be in New York state; Hudson valley, NYC preferred, however will consider qualified candidates in other areas of the state.

 

Travel:  Up to 75% Regional Travel

Education:  Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school

 

Experience: 

3+ years’ experience in local District Attorney or State Attorney office, working as a state or local prosecutor, or court or judicial clerk, practiced in local district and county courts.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join our team as a Court and Prosecution Specialist. This role requires a deep understanding of legal procedures, courtroom dynamics, and prosecution strategies. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, effective communicator, and possess a strong work ethic. This position is instrumental in integrating our program into the court system.

Responsibilities

Adjudication and Court Engagement:

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the adjudication process within town and municipal courts and provide support in navigating court filing processes.
  • Engage proactively with local courts, district attorneys, and county and town attorneys to ensure notices of liability are properly filed and docketed for hearings at the discretion of courts with competent jurisdiction.
  • Act as a liaison to facilitate smooth communication between local prosecutors and our team, ensuring all legal requirements are met and evidence is admitted efficiently during proceedings.

 

Legal Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant case law, statutes, court procedures, and regulations to build strong case foundations that support the successful adjudication of notices of liability.
  • Analyze case facts and legal precedents to develop strategies that enhance the effectiveness of evidence packages presented in court.

 

Court Practices and Procedures:

  • Assist judges, court clerks, and other court personnel in understanding their jurisdiction over offenses, the types of evidence that will be presented, and the legal requirements necessary to establish liability.
  • Serve as the point of contact for local prosecutors to provide guidance on evidence handling, best practices for admitting evidence to court, and strategies for successful adjudication.

 

Program Integration:

  • Develop and implement strategies to integrate our program into existing court procedures and operations, ensuring seamless program adoption and sustained compliance with local legal standards.

 

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and court personnel to ensure effective communication and alignment with court processes.
  • Work closely with government customers to ensure local attorneys and prosecutors (civil in nature) are prepared to present evidence to courts when required by law.

 

Training and Development:

  • Provide legal training and guidance to team members, court personnel, and stakeholders to build understanding and proficiency in handling adjudication issues.
  • Educate judges, court clerks, and legal professionals on adjudication best practices, evidence requirements, and the effective integration of our program into the local legal framework.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
  • 3+ years’ experience in local District Attorney or State Attorney office
  • Experience working as a state or local prosecutor, or court or judicial clerk, practiced in district and county courts
  • Substantive experience working with and communicating with Judges, Court Clerks, and Court Personnel
  • Proven experience in litigation and prosecution
  • Trial experience, practiced in district and county courts
  • Experience prosecuting vehicular crimes and related offenses an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
